Overview
Use an approved panel physician
Only a physician approved by IRCC can complete the immigration medical exam. Your family doctor cannot perform it unless they are also listed as a panel physician — this is the single most common cause of a wasted appointment.
The panel physician follows IRCC instructions and may conduct a medical history, physical examination, laboratory tests and diagnostic imaging. Age and medical history can affect which tests are required.
Existing medical conditions
Diabetes, high blood pressure, previous surgery or another diagnosis does not automatically result in refusal. Applicants must answer truthfully and provide any requested specialist reports or additional tests.
After the appointment
The clinic submits results to IRCC and gives the applicant proof of completion. IRCC may request further testing. The panel physician does not make the immigration decision.
