Overview

What is the income requirement?

The child or grandchild hosting the applicant must meet or exceed IRCC's minimum necessary income for the applicable family size. Thresholds can change, so the current IRCC table should be checked immediately before applying.

Who counts in family size?

The calculation may include the host, their spouse or common-law partner, dependent children, the invited parent or grandparent, other people invited at the same time, and certain people covered by previous sponsorship or Super Visa commitments.

The host's spouse or common-law partner may co-sign if eligible and may provide income evidence. Other relatives, including siblings, cannot co-sign simply to help meet the threshold.

Recently increased or variable income

Current employment evidence may help explain a recent increase, but IRCC assesses the complete record. Variable, business, rental or investment income should be clearly documented and consistent with tax filings.
