Overview
Can a Super Visa stay be extended?
A Super Visa holder may apply from inside Canada to extend temporary resident status. If approved, IRCC issues a visitor record showing the new authorized period of stay — it is not a new visa.
Apply before the current authorized stay expires. Filing early provides time to collect evidence and reduces the risk created by technical or payment problems near the deadline.
Status while waiting
A person who submits an eligible extension application before status expires may remain in Canada while IRCC decides. Travel can affect the practical benefit of maintained status, so get advice before leaving Canada.
If status has already expired
Restoration may be possible within the applicable legal period, but it is not automatic. Act promptly, and do not assume you hold valid status while restoration is pending.

Insurance during the extension
